Playing with friends
Open a room for up to four players. Covers the lobby and invite links, turn order, story language, the host's Direct and People tools, spectators, and seat requests.
Any story can be played with other people. Up to four humans share a room, and the AI cast answers everyone.
Open a room#
On a story page, tap Play with friends, choose the number of Seats, and pick Public or Invite only. Then tap Open a room. You become the room's host.
The lobby#
The lobby is where everyone gathers before the story starts:
- Invite: copy the invite link and send it to friends. They pick an avatar and Take a seat, or Watch as a spectator. New link retires the old one.
- Who can find this room: a Public room is listed under Live now on Worlds, so anyone can grab a free seat. A Private room is invite-link only.
- Turn order:
- Free-for-all: anyone can act at any time.
- In order: players act one after another, seat by seat. If a turn stalls, it can be skipped after 90 seconds.
- Host directs: the host decides who acts next.
- Story language: the narrator and every character write in the language you choose.
- Keeping everyone in the story: if a seat sits out too many turns, the story waits for that player before the cast answers. You decide whether it waits for the host or moves the idle player to the audience after a few minutes.
- Lobby chat for out-of-character hellos.
Tap Start the story when everyone's in. You can also tap Start now (others can join later).
Host tools#
Direct#
Direct opens the host's directing tools. They're free:
- Where & when: move the scene to a new place or time.
- Narrate this: ask the narrator for a beat ("Someone knocks at the door"). You get 5 a day per room.
- Whisper to the cast: a private direction the characters follow on the next beat. Players never see it.
- Story language: switch languages mid-story.
People#
People opens the room's people and AI cast:
- Approve or decline a spectator who asks for a seat.
- Mute 30 min, Move to audience, Make host or Remove a player.
- Invite a player by their exact @username. They get a notification with the join link.
- AI cast: add a character to the story mid-room, or remove one.
Backdrop#
Tap Backdrop on any finished picture to show it behind the story for everyone in the room. Clear backdrop removes it.
Spectators#
Up to 10 spectators can read along as the story happens. If a seat is free, a spectator can tap Ask to join, and the host can grant the seat from People. They need an avatar in the matching style first.
Staying in the loop#
Turn on Notify me in a room to get a push notification when the story moves while you're away. You can also manage Worlds notifications in Settings → Notifications.
