Playing a story
From picking a story to your first turn — avatars, the room, acting vs. saying, crafting your turn, snapping the scene, and the host's directing tools.
1. Pick a story and an avatar#
Open Worlds and pick a story. Every story is either realistic or anime — your avatar must match the style. If you don't have one yet, create your player avatar (a look, a name, a portrait) and you're in.
2. Act, say, or step out of character#
- Act — describe what you do.
*actions*in asterisks, "dialogue" in quotes. - Say — just talk; we quote it for you.
- OOC — out-of-character chat with the other players. Free, and the cast never sees it.
Stuck? Craft my turn writes a turn in your avatar's voice from the story so far; steer it (flirt, confront, investigate, joke…) or add your own direction, then edit before you send. It's free.
3. Snap the scene#
Snap the scene (50 XOT) opens the picture tool: choose who is in frame, write the moment in your own words, or let the story write it for you and edit from there. The picture lands in the story as a new frame. Tap a caption to copy the full prompt.
4. Follow the story#
The ticker under the cast shows where you are — place, time, act, tension, who is acting, everyone's mood and the newest facts. Story opens the story so far: summaries, facts, and every character's public goal and mood.
5. Hosting#
If you opened the room you are the host:
- Direct — move the scene to a new place or time, ask the narrator for a beat, or whisper a direction to the cast.
- Regenerate the cast's last reply (first redo free, then 5 XOT); edit or delete your own last turn while it is unanswered.
- Lobby — copy the invite link, choose public or invite-only, set the number of seats, and decide what happens when a player sits out too long.
- End story when it's done.
